Quote by shoujoboyHoly crap! It's a Jak review. Savor this people, they happen at about the frequency of February 29th. Aside of that I have to say one side of me loves your reviews while the other hates them. On one hand I just laugh at how informal your reviews are. Your written reviews remind me of when you are just conversing with someone and they start to talk about a show they watched. Almost like a mini-rant that takes place between school classes or something. It's short and sweet and gets the major points across. On the other hand it really doesn't seem to translate all that well to written word. It comes off a bit disjoined and short of detail. Instead of making decisions based on your objective review, it feels a lot like a "you had to have been there" type. Like unless I saw it all through your eyes, I don't really know what the hell you're talking about.

Me and my conflicted self are going to go now.

I still got lots of thing to work on... I know... ^_^' But thanks for the time, bro. Just having you comment on my review makes it all worthwhile... :D

Your comments should get they're own rating system...

And I just remembered that even though I write reviews a lot, I don't usually post them here... I dunno why... maybe coz you'll read it... hehehe just kiddin, dude... :)

you are the first honest and intelligent anime reviewer that I have ever seen on this site. You actually support your points with reasons and do not give biased reviews.

congrats

Thanks so much for your advice and for posting on my thread. I haven't talked to you in forever! How have you been?
Talk to you later!

Quote by shoujoboyGood points and certainly noted. I would also like to add I saw your comment on my Code Geass review and I feel quite pwned. Based on your comments I feel like I would be just as easily entertained by a cup and ball...

LOL. . . I didn't mean it that way at all! Code Geass is a well-made series, and it has to have gotten something right to have gotten so many accolades. For whatever reason, it simply didn't tickle my fancy (I must have fulfilled my quota of mecha anime already). That said, your review was excellent, as always. I just felt that I needed to put down my own two cents somewhere after finally watching episodes 24 and 25, and given that I did not feel up to writing a full review, I decided to leave some remarks on a review that not only was already written, but one that is much more thorough than anything I might have been able to toss together.

Quote by shoujoboyHey you know you love me. Canada stabs are good times ya know. If you're Canadian then I'll say I'm sorry. Sorry for insulting and sorry you're Canadian which is reason for sadness... HA!

And I'm sorry you're an (ignorant) American =P

Quote by Hasaki-Keissi[quot(...) your score is pretty close to the one I gave it. I have to say you have one hell of an interesting review style. 10% modifier? Sweet Jesus is there some kind of review calculator that my computer is missing? Interesting indeed.

Thank you for reading and replying to my review. I always like to hear what people have to say in response.

There's no review calculator, unless you count the basic calculator installed on your computer. All I did was enter in the average divide by 10 and add that onto the average. (Generally, modifiers (For me) are %10 (Small), %20 (Fair), and %30(Massive) and go no higher than that.)

Interesting, huh? The way it's written, I'm assuming.

Well, anyways, Thanks again for your reply.

I personally have always pushed for a 5th scoring category, to the likes of 'tilt'. A score independent of all the tangibles like plot, art and sound. I wanted that category so that I could give my personal opinion on something outside of it's technical merits. Something like Tenjho Tenge which I thought was absolutely terrible ended up with a higher score than I would have liked because it did have gorgeous animation and great sound but the show on the whole was awful. I guess I just try to work within the parameters of the given review system. Either way, keep writing and keep em thoughtful and that will improve the system on its own.

I do have to agree, that the 5th category allows for that tilt. I mean, short of technical matters, the 5th category is the only place where we can truly let our opinions about the show (as a whole) be talked about.

Quote by shoujoboyTwo things to be addressed here. 1. Yea I loved the way I ended that one. I figured I would either get a laugh out of the reader or make em angry, either way still fun for me. 2. Yes I do count every series I watch. A few years ago my friends used my recommendations for what they would watch since I watched so much more than they did. So I started putting them in order of favorites so now when they ask "How is Show X" I can say "Its 34 out of 100". Stupid I know, but I just got used to it.

lol, I got a laugh out of that one ;)

ah I see. So, can you give me some recommendations for my friend then? She's obsessed with Gundam SEED, and so am I (have you seen it? how does that rank on your list XD), but I think she needs to see more shows :D. She apparently doesn't really care for genre, as long as it has a nice likable cast and good plot. Oh, and no gore (she finds even FMA disturbing, which I don't understand...).

Quote by shoujoboyHonestly I've wanted to watch this show for a while as it just seems adorable in every way but I was just turned off by that 52 episode count. I tended to think that it would fall into drudgery considering the rather simple premise behind the show. Seems I was right from your review. I think I'll put this one on the backburner for a while.

Yup it is adorable, and very typical shoujo style (if you like that sort of thing). But yeah the story is dragged on too long... watch it if you're really bored XD , or better, go read the manga (which I haven't read, but heard is better anyway, and it's like 8 volumes I think).

I find it kinda amusing that FMA gets rated lower than Fate/Stay Night XD

btw, what # is this one on your list of 100?

Yes I did enjoy Fate/Stay Night much more than Fullmetal Alchemist. Not as deep of a story but just more enjoyable and engrossing in my humble opinion. Oh and FMA sits at 24 on the list of 100. Top 25% ain't bad right?

So, what are your top 5?

Also, do you know why so many series use 26 as the magic number for episode numbers?

Quote by shoujoboyWell written review on a game I hear nothing but terrible things about. I don't think I've ever seen a review that scores it this highly although you did a good job explaining your stance. Still not sure if I'm willing to chance playing it though.

Thanks so much for the comment on my review! My roomate didn't like it much either. She said that it was too repetitive. I think that the reason that people bash it so much is just because they may have expected more. I have never actually played a first person shooter before, so I still enjoyed it. You should at least try it out. I am sure that you can borrow it from someone you know.

Actually, there was a Dirge of Cerberus for cell phones, but I don't know how those games work. . .
Ah well, thanks again for the comment!

hi there... thx for making "review" of my review :D. If you could tell me more about my syntax mistakes via PM I would be very apprectiated... Thanks in advance

Quote by shoujoboyMaybe it's because of the amount of anime that you've seen that you rate it so highly, but I have to highly disagree with your scoring. Yes it was entertaining, but that's as far as it goes. Seeing a 9.83 just screams amazing, and although it's clear you liked the show considerably, something is still lacking from the overall review and it just doesn't come across as a show just short of a '10'. It is hard to objectively review a show that you just loved, but all you can do is try.

Looking at your past reviews I must say that I don't put too much into your scores as you seem to "love" just about everything. Clearly you throw around '10's way too much which just takes away any impact from your scores. Maybe if I saw an occasional '5' your '10's will mean much more. But as I see it, your reviews are nothing more than the rantings of a fangirl.

That's my two cents... take it however you like.

Yes i may be a fangirl and maybe i rated the animes a bit too high but as i said before in my review, this is MY opinion and you didn't have to read on if you didn't like it. Clearly, you have so much time on your hands that you can read all my reviews and criticise them. I really appreciate comments that help me improve my reviews. Who knows? Maybe you meant well but I view your comment as an insult because saying that it is 'nothing more than the rantings of a fangirl' is going too far.

As far as i'm concerned, i really tried to do reviews in the short time that i am online on the animes that i loved and what can i say? I love all of them. I think you are taking this review thing WAY too seriously and you may just be a bit too critical and i accept that. There are many types of people in the world and you just have to deal with it. I mean its a REVIEW it's MEANT to be biased and your comment really hurt my feelings. I will think about what you have said but, hopefully, the next time you comment, your 'two cents' may be just a TAD bit nicer.

Thankyou.

I take back absolutely nothing that I said as I meant it all. And yes I do make a point to try to read every review that comes across this site and comment on them. I am a part of the Minitokyo Review group and our purpose is to improve the reviews that come across this site by commenting when we can and recruiting those with good writing skills. I simply told you what I believed, and after discussing it with other members they said I was all but fair. If you'd prefer to be angry about it then have a ball. And I will say, should you do another review, you can pretty much expect that I will comment on that as well. If you write a better review I will be likewise nice and comment you, but if it remains then expect much of the same from me.

Don't always expect a pat on the back no matter what work you put up here.

I NEVER expected anything from anyone least of all a pat on the back for work. I never thought of this as work, rather, it is my form of entertainment and communication.

I will try my best to take your advice and everybody elses as well. I like people to be honest with me but all i ask for is that you be more polite when commenting and instead of commenting about me of what think you of me, you should comment on what i should improve on and what other aspects i should include in the review as i acknowledge that i still need advice on this area.

I hope that we will come to an agreement because this arguing is wearing me out and this is the first time i got angry at anyone on this site. I'm sure too that you have better things to do than to argue with me and as i said, i hope we can get to come to terms with each other at least.

Quote by shoujoboyWe meet again... Anyway a couple of recommendations. Write your reviews up and get someone else to proofread who has a good grasp on things like sentence structure. Much of the review consisted of disjointed sentences with a big time lack of flow; a necessity in keeping readers interest. The other is don't be afraid to use a thesarus to vary your adjectives and other vocabulary. Overuse of "pretty good" and "average" weakens the overall review. Take my advice for what it's worth.

Sounds fine with me but i don't have anyone who can proofread for me unless u want to. As for the thesaurus bit i'll take it.

Quote by shoujoboyI'm a DVD person myself as I like to have full control over what I'm watching IE language selection, no commercials and the ability to pause or skip things like opening and closings. I don't think I've watched an anime on TV in years and I'm not much of a manga reader.

hahaha...yeah, you are kind of right.... :)
I can pause my show when I have something else to do and skip all the opening and ending.
I use to do that as well!
Guess what, many poster in this thread agrees with you :)

Thanks for answering my thread and hope you enjoy your anime show.

Quote by shoujoboyJ-pop tends to be my forte so I can at least throw a couple your way: Yuna Ito, KOTOKO, Sachi Tainaka and Minami Kuribayashi are good bets. Nana Mizuki is also great but you just have to get used to the way she sings.

thank you! Ive heard KOTOKO before, and I just got some Minami Kuribayashi music the other day (I LOOOOVE hoshizora no waltz)! Im currently getting some yuna ito, sachi tainaka, and nana mizuki music! thanks again!

Quote by shoujoboyNormally my first comment would revolve around the reviews length. I mean your entire review can fit within one click of the wheel on my mouse. Yet you somehow managed to hit all the necessary points in each section without any of the obligatory fluff. Sure more description is always welcome, but dribbling on (much like I am doing now) is annoying.

As for the show itself, I've only heard little bits and pieces about it from people, usually positive. Maybe it just didn't sound like my type o' show, so I never got around to it. Well if I do watch it and I don't agree with at least this 8.33 of yours, I will hunt you down!

:) Well, for the past six months I've been studying journalistic reporting with a guy who writers for Reuters and Associated Press, and I've learned a thing or two about concision [y'know, saying lots of stuff in few words]. I guess I've already got a habit of being short and to the point ^_^'

You should really watch GTO if you've got the chance. And hey, if you don't agree with the 8.33, you can always argue my point of view in another review X-P ...Or, you can come to Japan and we'll have a b33r together to settle the dispute [that is, if you watch it after April 1st :)].

Thanks for the comment!

Quote by shoujoboyDon't feel bad at all, that's the way that game is. I was pretty dominant at DOA3 only to get to DOA4 and get completely owned at every turn. The game is extremely cheap at every turn. The only way you can move through quicker is really vary your combos. If you consistantly use the same combos, the computer will counter you and eat you alive. Also, learn counters NOW. As for beating that final CHEATING ASS boss, I can't help you there, she is just cheap cheap cheap. My achievements shall forever stay low in that game.

Wow.....I didn't know all of that. Actually, now that I think about it, the computer is clearly reading your button inputs! Straight cheap! And Alpha-152 is simply the pinnacle of cheapness! I call her cheatmaster A! But, either way, I still fin it annoying and infuriating when I continue up to 13+ times on ONE ROUND! Oh, and I know how to counter, I'm just not very good at it. I basically just guess where the attack is coming and hope that I guessed right, so......my counter holds rarely work. Well, at least I know that it isn't just me! Thanks, Shoujoboy!

Quote by shoujoboyWhat is is that people type on reviews on this site that puts /'s in front of their apostrophes? Really though, well thought out review and props on breaking down the sub and the dub side of things. Not only that but going against the grain and prefering the dub over the sub, how brave. Ha. Good review and now on to your other...

Much has to do with the text editor being used. For example, the use of "smart quotes" in M'soft Word do not always translate well into the bbCode framework. Same issue can be said with most other text editors on Windows (i.e. OpenOffice.org) and, to a lesser extent, Mac OS. Simple Solution: make sure people don't try to be too smart with their characters and also take the time to review their submissions to knock out extraneous code.
