worthy of the title "great".

what made these great people different from us. Was it divine intervention?
Chance, timing or simply something in their genius? I will never truly know.

Thank you for replying to my thread. I have heard much of Persepolise in Shiraz, Iran. And Darius was without a doubt one of the greatest men to have walked the earth. Long before the concept of human rights was around, Darius believed in treating all his subjects equally. Even the Greeks whom he conquered thought of him as a fair and just ruler. During the construction of Perseplise, Darius did not believe in using slave labour and paid every man and woman equally based on the amount of work they did. his human rights policies were the first to be ever made, and were revolutionary for his time. These laws continued to pass onto his ancestors. I am not very familiar with Cyrus however, but I am sure he was worthy of the title "great".
The history of greater Iran posesses perhaps some of the greatest men in the world. But to each nation their own greatness, no? But I have always wondered what made these great people different from us. Was it divine intervention? Chance, timing or simply something in their genius? I will never truly know.
What makes a Darius? A Zarathustra, a Napolean or Caesar? Something existed within all these men which made them different to us. But for now, all I can do is gaze admiringly upon their thrones... And hope, that I may see one more great explosion, be it of intellectual power or military might in this world before I die. All I ask is to have one more great mind walk the earth in this life time... Is that so much to ask?
