Hey, how is it going? It has been forever since I have done anything online since I left college. I am actually working on another oil painting. There isn't really that much detail work in it, but there is a lot of blending of the oil, so it will still be nice to look at. I am actually painting on a scrap canvas that someone never finished, so there is extra texture that helps with the abstractedness of it. Other than painting, I have been working on leather and chainmaille. What kinds of projects have you been working on?

Hy,oh my gosh haven't talked to you for such a long time. How are you,how is everything, how is work.I wanted earlier to write you but all the time something came up.Currently I am sick with a cold and it seems that weather makes me feel kinda tired too,it is that it will be so hard to get used to such a changing weather,so human begin kinda managed to do technological improvement but in the same time he destroys Earth little by little,as I would say,I think,I ma actually sure that all the strange phenomenon or the fact that nature shows some instability is because of our irrational things!
Well I've been also trying to obtain some points on AP,I have been trying to post some scans and they always get deleted by this pretext that they are in the wrong category so how much I like their scans I won't post that!
Haha,I am seeing something pretty funny on TV with mom,it's her birthday so she is at home!Hugs!

Just wanted to stop in and say hi!

Hi there,
I'm sorry to come over to your userpage to tell you something this serious.
I have recieved a call from Semangas sister today, she was begging me to tell her friends something very serious and very sadly. Sema has died yestarday, on July the 31st.
She was lying in the hospital over the weekend. And in the first moment it looked like she was getting better, but last night, she died.

I'm sorry, that i have to stop writing now, but i can't write anymore.. with all the tears in my eyes. I'm sorry.

Quote by mentisNice work. I do like the character the most of course ^_^. I do think that there's a little too much text, and it takes up a little too much space in the composition. Reducing that element, I think the look would be cleaner and more effective. Other than that, well done. The character is bold and strong. Oh, and the "Not my scan..." confused me at first :P.

heeee......i'm not sure if you realize, it's a magazine-styled doujinshi. as it's a doujinshi of a magazine cover, i thought it resembles a little like those scans. thus, the joke "not my scan.." (but if it caused much confusion to you, i would apologize ^_^' )

because from my research prior to this drawing, i find many popular magazine tend to full each space with highlights titles. but do enlighten me if this is untrue ^_^'

not to forget, thanks very much for your comments! :D

have a nice day~

AHAHAHA. o my what late reply! gomen gomen~~! >-<

Quote by mentisSo I guess I don't remember, but what level did you graduate from? Is it high-school of college?

college - BSIT. i hate it! but glad it's over. now, i'm working- that' the one that kills me nowadays.. it's fun though. >-<

Quote: I guess maybe you need to take a few people off of your watchlist :P, he he...

heeyyy. i never thought of that! hmmm.. :pacman:

Quote: Well OpenCanvas is still digital, so it's not quite the same thing. I paint with paints and brushes on an actual canvas :P. But yes, if you have not had a chance to check it out yet, you can see my latest piece here.

And yes, my game Copic Fighter is actually about Copic markers. It's a little artsy and humorous twist on the old shooter genre. It's not that big of a download (about 6mb), so check it out if you have time (mentisworks.org).

lolz. i thought so. XD

Quote: I'd be happy to see some new work from you :D. I should get a notification, but if not, let me know just in case when you do submit them.

hehe. okays. i will submit some in a couple of hours, just practice/copy works. :D

Quote:
I'm not sure why it would ask you for my address/name on myspace, that's strange. I've never seen that before. Tell me how I can find your profile on myspace and I'll see if I can figure out the problem there...

sure - ok, my myspace address is www.myspace.com/chisaikame ..if it asks for my email it's nervnervi(at)yahoo :D

thank you for writing again, mentis san! and see you! :D

Quote by mentisHi Kokuyu-san ^_^. I just wanted to let you know that I was able to get higher quality images of several of my paintings. They have now been updated on MT, and include some which you have commented on.

Those paintings are...

Uyoku,
Infidelity of Itsuki,
as well as With Open Eyes,
Tears,
and Elf.

All of them are now higher resolution, sharper (so more detail), and the colors are closer in accuracy to the originals. Enjoy!

Hi, Mentis-san. It's been a long while since I slack from reading guestbook X-P XD I've been outside MT for quite a [long!] short while when as promised, I did my artworks. Gomen nasai very much ^_^'

Besides too, I have check some of your paintings. :) Nothing much to comment, but seriously, it's like I'm REALLY viewing in front of your paintings (though can't feel and touch it ^_^' ). What scanner did you use? XD (pardon my lack of better words to describe)

Other than that, I have completed a few of the works as promised. The only difference is I didn't use much (some are none too >_< ) paint, because by the time I realized that, I'm out of budget to buy a new set, added by the fact some geometric styles aren't east to be created by paint. Thus, after a while of brainstorming, I used mainly card boards, soft pastels and coloured markers. In other words, "mixed media". ;)
You can view them in my Userpage, located in "KOKUYU'S ALBUM" section, of SUMMER HOBBY category. The one I once mentioned is the one in dark blue background.
However, the descriptions are rather short, because at the same time I was trying to shrink my userpage from getting too far and too long. So, if there's anything you need to now, feel free to ask me ^______^

Got to go now to wash dishes ^_^' See ya~! :D

Hy!
Guess why I'm so happy? I finished all the exams! 2 of them with not such a good score but I'm happy with them, anyway everything is well when it ends well.
Read approximately all u wrote about the convention, here u will never see an anime convention at that scale, marvelous! liked everything about it.
There was some attempt last year( I do hope they will organize it again) , never got there, but I talked with my friends that went there and they were kinda disappointed, but I guess that's the thing with the first attempts ,experience and time makes it better ;)
The cosplays, way awesome, the work they put into their creations is astonishing , really liked the one with the belts, there's a picture with her, impressive!
aaaa, there's a trailer on u r blog with a Japanese movie called Casshern , (hope I spelled it right), really liked the trailer showed it to my brother=both of us were impressed.
Tell me , I found a torrent, and started d/l (to see what I got,if its worth the trouble), . there's also a sub(enghlish) version, cuz what I found didn't mentioned anything about it and I would like to know if there is.
Bye! take care!
PS:and if u know anymore good movies, do tell!

Sorry about not replying earlier, this time I was just being lazy. Gomen nasai! What was I doing with the ping-pong table? I was playing ping-pong. Yeah I'm feeling better. Better than when I hit my head anyway. The doctor gave me some medicine/pain killers. On Wednesday I get my stitches taken out. Yay no more stitches My eye however is another story. Vision's the same. But I have a bruise on/near it there's blood over the eyelid/not on top, under my eyebrow. It's not something ya wanna see. Ok..... I'm going to stop talking about that now. Gomen, sorry, rambling habit

Yikes, that sounds pretty rough. Well, the reason I asked about what you were doing with the table is because I've never heard of someone injuring themselves quite this bad during ping pong. I assumed you were playing, but you must have done something a little out of the ordinary to receive such damage . But I do hope that you're feeling better now. Hopefully there's no scarring either!

Quote:
Anyway arigato, thanks for asking, I saw your piece. It's really good Gotta go. My computer time's up You also take care! Ja ne. Bye!

Glad you got to see my painting. I actually ended up selling that one, and the gallery owner asked me to paint another piece. Because I was leaving for the con, I had to paint it in one day! So I already got that one submitted to MT as well, which is here.

Thanks for writing, get well, and watch out for ping pong tables .

You went to an anime con? Lucky :D Well about what happened in ping pong: I went to get the ball. After that, I tripped on my way back to the table so I ended up hitting my head there. I'm feeling a lot better now. There's no scar but there is a little bump next to my eyebrow. It's nothing to worry about. Again thanks for asking and caring :) Wow. In one day?! Sugoi! I continued playing ping pong a few weeks/days later, tried to be a little more careful and this time I didn't end up back at the clinic for stitches. Yay! Well gotta go. Hope you're doing well! If I don't reply for a while you can check out my other account: evilshoujo. Sayonara. Bye!

Quote by mentisNo, of course I wasn't suggesting you put him on a black bg, as I do understand your idea of keeping the "White Cloud" idea going. I was just thinking that it would be a stronger piece if there was more contrast, though not necessarily a lot of contrast. If you were to vector the image, that might do the trick.

If I ever get out of my Naruto kick, I may very well re-vector Kumo and try something else with the wallpaper. The screen dots in the original were very annoying to work with.

Quote by mentisAh, so you did vector the characters. Nice work. See, you did such a good job that I couldn't tell the difference between your vector and the original. Well done!

Thank you very much ^^

Quote by mentisThe convention was awesome, and now we are planning a little cosplay picnic with some of the people who went to it. So that's pretty exciting XD.

Ooh! A cosplay picnice, now that's something new :D
It'd be great to see what shaped biscuits people will bring... I'd love to eat one in the shape of a Mokona or Pikachu... XD!

Quote: I know, right? We have vowed to not wait as long to see each other again. Some of them are coming to our town in a month or so. But it's pretty hard when you live in different places that are about three hours worth of driving apart. I suppose that's not that far, but it is a bit of an expense. Especially with the way gas prices are these days.

Ahhh yes. I understand what you mean- I have a lot of friends and they don't even live near as far as an hour away, even with public transport. A lot of them won't come out even at the price of a train ticket :( Gas indeed is really expensive these days. I remember when it was less than half the price it was now... I was just a kid @__@

Quote: Arigato gozaimasu ^_^. I will go and look at that thread right now :D. Also, just so you know, I have updated the image for Infidelity of Itsuki. It's sharper now, more detailed, and the colors are more accurate. So if you have time it might warrant another look.

Ahhh right :) I shall go check it out :P

Quote: Exellent. Thank you very much. You're always so helpful Misa-chan ^_^'.

Thank you for writing again, and take care...!

The image itself in the actual book has screen dots on it if you noticed. This was done a very long time ago, maybe over 2 years when I first got the book. The point was not to make Kumo *stand out* by having a dark background. I also do not associate Kumo with the color Black at all, as his name is White Cloud. So I try to keep all his wallpapers light in color.

Perhapses when I feel like it, I'll vector it, but I'll be keeping the same idea as I see nothing wrong with the blue + clouds on the wallpaper at the moment.

Quote by mentisThough I am not a big fan of Naruto, this is a well composed wall. However, I can't quite tell the difference between the scan (Set B) and the wall, other than the sun and text. I'm sure you did a fair amount of work on it, and you mention doing vector work on it as well. So did you vector all the characters anew for this?

I admit, the sun was hard to blend into the rest of the image. I'm still a bit unhappy with that one part. The 3 Characters were Vectored in Illustrator.

Hiya Simo-chan! My apologies for not writing back sooner, but we had been away to an anime convention :D. It was a lot of fun, and I even wrote up a report on it. If you're curious, you can see it right here.

So thank you for writing me. It does seem like you have had a rough time lately -_-', but I hope that things are getting better. I'm glad you find your ID, that's kind of important XD. As far as exams go, no I am very glad I don't have to deal with that at all :P. I've out of school for a few years now. I finished my studies in 2003 actually :P. So does that make me old? Ha ha...

Well, other than that there's a little bit of other news. I don't know if you heard, but I already sold the painting Infidelity. I was sad to see her go, because I really liked the piece. But after that the gallery asked me for another painting which I had to paint on short notice. I did get it done though, and it's even up on MT already. You can see that piece here. I don't think it's quite as good as the first, but I still like it :D. I hope you do to :P.

Well, that's probably enough for now. Good luck with your exams, I'm sure you'll do great! And let me know now your computer is doing. I hope that it gets better too ^_^.

Take care Simo-chan ^_^...

Don't worry about that. :) I'm glad to see that u spent the time having fun and meeting people :D.
I'll definitely check it out!
The info about the comp are really useful.thnx! I really needed the address u gave me. :)
Finished in 2003 XD woo, didn't knew that. Right now I see u as the most fortunate man in the world , I can't see u missing the exams, I have 2 more to go X-P they are quite stressful OX.
Thnx for cheering me up! I appreciate it!
U know the next question I was about to ask u was "Have u found a gallery for the paintings?"
And now I read U already sold Infidelity XD Great job! Don't be sad, just think that U made someone else happy threw your talent. :), I'm glad that ur work is known and is selling . I might seem a bit cold but u have to live also.
I've seen the new work It looks very good! Keep them coming :)

Quote by mentisHiya Misa-chan ^_^. I feel like I'm always apologizing for not replying fast enough. So I guess maybe I'll just tell you that we were away to an anime convention, which is why I wasn't on MT last week. You can read all about the con in my report right here, with pics. There was some awesome cosplay going on, and it was great fun all around :D. (...) I think that this is a good idea, and if anything of this does end up being implemented I'd love to know about it ^_^.

Hi mentis! Don't worry about slow replies or anything- we all have stuff goin' on in real life- my reply is even slower ^_^' Sorry!
Ooooh anime convention *_*

I'd definitely keep you posted if there are any updates in the system^.^

Perhaps- I don't really know how it'd work- if it could work ^_^' Worth a try I suppose :3

Wow! A year <3 That would have been nice to see them again :D And everyone loves a little holiday every now and then ;)

Quote: Thank you so very much for the fav and your nice comment :D. Seems like this new piece hasn't been viewed all that much, but then I didn't have much time to promote it either :P. So I'll probably do that as I catch up with my notifications (yet again ^_^').
Take care Misa-chan!

No problem :D I really liked it ^_^
And speaking of promotion, perhaps you might find this hmmm... of interest :P

Hi there MENTIS!

Sorry for taking so long to reply.

Thanks for dropping by on the GB; I wouldn't have known you've visited if someone didn't tell me about that.

I haven't been on MT lately.... Well not just lately, it's been a while now, maybe like a year or so, but I do return occasionally, once in a while. I have full time job in architecture for a while now (it's demanding and boring) and on top of that I still have my UNI to finish. Last year was so crazy that I decided to cut down on my MT-time.

But itâ??s always nice to see some senior MT members still rockin', it's keeping the spirit alive.
Nice works btw, wish I could go each and every works in details, I enjoyed them.
I reviewed your older ones hope you don't mind, didn't know it was there. Mt has changed quite a lot. So it's kind of hard to navigate my way around MT nowadays. Well I must say , after seeing your paintings kind of re-awaken the creative side of me, makes me wanna do stuff like that. Keep those works coming keep the scene alive.

Well till then, hope everything is going alright with you, and hope to see more of those interesting works.
Until then..¦

Long time no see! (Not proud of that, u know)
Soo, let me tell u how my week went(a hell o f a week)actually last week, anyway started with a virus on my computer, that made my speed decrease by the hour, and a new world record appeared a 5kb/s one!
I have to leave it just like it is, the comp cuz I might loose all the info on it , (not the first time that happened) for 2 more weeks to finish my exams and after that .. Gods Will!
Lost my ID card last Friday , found out this Monday, recovered it today! Soo happy !I looked all over the house , Went crazy for 2 days, anyway , all is well when it ends well.
Started my exams , I suppose u also started them. Good luck! Do all your best!
I'm kinda scared of these exams. I'm scared of all of them, actually. That's me^^"
Talk to u soon , I'm leaving u now. Take care!

Quote by mentisOhaio Dream-san ^_^. It's been a long time, and you probably don't even remember me anymore -_^. I just thought I'd stop by, say hello, and ask a question :D.

I was wondering if you know whether there are anymore W.A.R. competitions...? I tried looking for info on the forums, but didn't find anything. Are they all done with that? If you could let me know, I'd appreciate it. Arigato gozaimasu -_-.

of course i remember you mentis- i just got back to Mt after a few weeks absence. yes, it is true that a lot of the old Mt-er's aren't here anymore but although i don't submit walls too much i still pop in to see what my friends are doing.

perhaps MT is ready for an overhaul. luckily i am able to block all these damn "google" ads that defecate this place nowadays in Firefox.

there isn't a WAR competition per se but a few contest can be found here:
http://paint-o-rama.minitokyo.net/
http://paint-o-rama.minitokyo.net/

another interesting group is this:
http://art-nouveau.minitokyo.net/

be sure to go back and view all the guest-book posts.

Quote by mentisArigato gozaimasu, Dream-san ^_^. And thank you for taking the time to comment and fav! Your support is greatly appreciated.

The interesting thing about this piece, is that I had just finished it, and it sold within a week of being put in the show! So it's gone now, and I'm a little sad -_-'. I really liked her, and sometimes I get attached to my pieces. But now, because the piece is not in the show anymore, the gallery owner wants a new piece. So I have two days (because of another upcoming event) to paint a new painting. Yikes! Well, I'm about 30% done with it now. So I guess that means I'll be putting another new piece up on MT :D.

It was nice to hear from you. I curious if you're still active very much on MT. I know that many older users haven't been doing as much anymore. If you have the time, I'd be happy to hear from you again. Take care...

congratulations on the sale- that ,must be a bitter-sweet feeling. i look forward to seeing your new piece. it's really great to see an MT member creating art and a life from that. very admirable indeed. ^^

take care and ill talk to you soon. :)

Quote by eunasahngAh that's cool. Very nice focus. It's great to see something different. You've done a good job with the colouring and cleaning it. It's of high quality. Perhaps some areas look a tad too much smudged out but it's still very nice. Well done :D

Hiya Eunah-chan ^_^. Thank you so very much for commenting on my new painting. Unfortunately, I think you misunderstood my description.

This is not a digital painting. So there was no cleaning, coloring, extraction, or smudging involved. This was done with acrylic paints, water, and "real" brushes, and it was painted on a canvas ^_^'.

I'm still glad that you liked the piece overall, but perhaps you could amend your comment since it doesn't reflect the content in question...? -_-' gomen... I feel silly making such a request. Well, if you don't have time to post again it's okay. I just wanted to make sure you know what you were looking at.

Arigato gozaimasu ^_^. Hope to hear from you again...

Well, I didn't think it was digitally done, but it was clean so I thought you might have just touched it up after scanning it :)

But I made small adjustments (I couldn't be bothered writing a whole new one so it hasn't changed much but I hope it looks clearer now).

Anyway, how have things been going for you? I'm just sleepy right now. Don't know why. Maybe it's the exam stress two weeks before the finals! lol

I'd better go to lunch now. I'll catch you later ;)

Quote by mentisThis is clearly well done. I have actually no complaints about this piece, though I do have one small concern. From this picture, which is admittedly not of the highest resolution, I could not quite make out what her left arm was doing back there. I'm sure it is clearer in the actual painting though :D. Perhaps you can update the image with a higher quality one?

I am curious now to hear if you have done any other paintings of this or similar caliber, and also whether this piece is still in your possession? It's always nice to see someone painting based on anime/game subculture.

So good job on this. I know it took a long time. But you clearly have a firm grasp on the medium. Any further paintings that you are planning to do?

Thanks so much for the awesome comment! Sadly I don't have the orginal anymore, but I do still have the photograph, so if I need to I could try scanning it again. I think that her right arm is just brusing back her hair. . .lol
I don't really have any paintings that are better than this, but I am working on Paine's poster right now. Well, I haven't touched it in a while, but I plan too soon. I haven't really painted anything lately, not in oil anyways, so I think that I should just do a pratice painting before I continue on Paine so that I don't mess her up. When I am done with Paine I will also paint Yuna's poster so it is a complete series. Yay! ^_^

Quote by mentisOverall I think this is a strong piece, yet there are some elements that could be improved. I believe that her eye appears somewhat unnatural because of the high contrast of the iris. This would be diminished had this been a frontal portrait, but the profile view adds to this unnatural feeling. Also, I think that the "floating" of her head in the piece lessens the strength of the composition. I would have recommended to fill the background entirely with color as opposed to the more localized choice.

As such, the compositional elements of this piece could be solved in part by cropping it closer to the face. However, I think you have done quite will with your color choice, and it gives the face a bold quality. I think that had you chosen to extend the neck and show perhaps the shoulders as well, the painting would have stronger effect.

Still, your strokes are well controlled, which is important. So the hair is very well executed, and the blending of colors in the face is very well done too. Moreover, the anatomy of the face is accurate and bears no awkwardness (with the exception of the eye). I think you have done well with this, and I would love to see you attempt this piece a second time.

If you had that inclination, I would not recommend trying to "fix" this piece. This one is finished. But you could always attempt a second version anew.

Thanks for this comment as well! This one wasn't really a planned peice like Rikku was. I agree that some shoulders would help, I also think that the eye is too close to the bridge of the nose. . .but that may just be me. Before I continue with Paine, I may just redo this one in oil. . .I think that it would be pretty neat to do it in a different color scheme as well. ^_^ yay for ideas!

FINALLY! my tea break to reply week-long replies :D

Quote by mentisYou are very welcome for the fav. And don't worry about not having a card. I think that the "card image" has become a little too popular, and people often just post a generic "thanks for the comment/fav" image now, making it feel somewhat impersonal.

So I rather prefer not to have the card, and instead read a comment that is interesting which the user put effort in to write. That is also why I do not use "cards" as such, but write comments to users.

In much sense, i'm quite looking forward to proposing a discourage (or ban?) on thanks card. that way will make people (who admire) to look beyond viewing art only. it's been a norm to see some guestbooks filled with thanks card only.

but, another matter is on those who just click to 'favourite' but comment nothing (many did this way), there wouldn't much to talk about. thus, writing same messages will still look like spams.

Quote: I am also very thankful that you liked this piece and have written such nice things about it. It does indeed look quite nice on the wall, and retains qualities which are lost in such a digital image. That is also why it's important to download the full version in order to see the detail in the painting.

I'll be looking forward to seeing your new piece, since you say it share some similarities with Uyoku. I hope that chose the right Japanese word for the title, and that the dictionary did not confuse me ^_^.

you're welcome :)
however, for my part. i've doubts whether to submit it or not, because it's A1 in size. plus, scanning or photographing it doesn't seem right because there are some gold/shining colours on it (i was borrowing some styles from Iluminated Manuscript.

nevertheless, a little comment on my current art as mentioned, there won't be any common religious elements (as Gothic's art are religion-orientated). Moreover, since Art Nouveau is a breakaway from the rigid Gothic, I decided to re-unite them in a pop art way.
an important point to be known is neither would i add the common modern Gothic subculture's elements (skulls, bats and cross) because those will make this art too awful to be even placed in living room. XD
all in all, i choose to create something dark but still appeal to people from all walks of life. :)

anyway, if possible, i might submit it into MT. otherwise, i would get the best shot and link it through photobucket for you.

Quote: Thank you again for such thoughtful words. I'm glad you understand this piece so well. In fact, much of the black elements in the background are intended to be blood, but had I made them red they would have completely overwhelmed the piece. As such, they represent many of the elements you speak of, as well as blood, as only a dark shadow.

So thank you for the nice comments, and the favs, which are greatly appreciated. Take care ^_^, and I'm sure I will hear form you again...

black blood should be the word :) and what's more, it is understood as darkness in one's soul.

Quote by mentisHi again :D. Just wanted to tell you that I put that painting up at last. You can find it here. I hope you like it :D.

thanks for sharing :) i shall check it out in soonest possible :)

somehow, i find your artworks pretty unique. i've never visit any art exhibition before in my life. so, your collection can be pleasantly viewed as an exhibition in MT too! :D
and thanks very much for your comment on my recent scan. however, it's been deleted away due to 'low quality'. but never mind anyway~

btw, sad to say, Oriya had left MT. it's again another person leaving for the same reason...... T_T

ok, it's dinner already XD . i'm indeed very sorry again for late reply (though i'm now on end of semester holiday :nya:). can't make any excuses, i've to busy myself with some hobbies, or else i'll be 'killed horridly' by boredom. too bad, it affects my MT's slot time too ^_^'
but, i've to inform you that you need not wait for my reply ^_^' . nevertheless, i assure all replies will be replied within 2 weeks
