appalled that anyone would be so impertinent as to ask me to throw away even
more.

is scanning her copy of the book, you can bother her instead, because I am
getting rid of my copy of the book, even if I have to donate it to charity to be
rid of it.
Before I go to court...wich might lead to a wee bit o jail time, gotta stop by

this problem, of either over-filtering the scan or under-filtering it... What
would you suggest? Adding more filters on the scan or?

I can't tell you a main way how to filter a scan, blurry it, whatever. I just
can tell you how I often do it again ^_^". most of the time, I dublicate
the scan, then for example idicate the upper one and blur the under one. You can
of course choose other types of changing the upper one for example strong light
but I just told you how I do it in the majority of the cases. ^_^

problem when I edit the image. I thought of leaving it as the original, but it
looks too cramp for his leg...

Etou, sorry, i ahve no tutorial for these bg, I can just tell you how I usually
do them:
I just put some colours together on a simple , two coloured bg, mix them a
little, then dublicate the layer and set the upper layer for example on hard
light. then some random stuff as clouds or stars and finished. So the main point
is to work with the layers and their "abilities" ^_^.
