1. The hotlist is not important at all. It provides a bit of fun- some people
want to "show" who their friends are rather than just have them as
text links. It's just a bit of fun because it has more pictures on the userpage
and it generates a lot more interest than just a link. I'm sure you'd want to
click on an interesting photo and go "hmmm who's that?" rather than
click on a text link that looks nothing more like a series of letters put
together ie. a username
2. With friends, only mutual friends appear on the page. Because you consent to
that person also displaying your name on theirs as friends.
Watchlist is not mutual. You watch someone if you like their gallery items and
want to keep track of them. You don't have to add someone back just because they
watched you, because you might not like or be interested in their gallery
submissions.
Similarly it's the same with the hotlist: you don't have to add someone back
just because they did: you might not want to see their photo on your
userpage.
All in all, don't worry too much if someone adds you to their hotlist or not.
It's not really a big of a deal and it's just like extra traffic to your page so
there's nothing bad about it. If you don't even have a photo uploaded, nothing
will even appear on the adder's userpage- and many people just randomly add
others *shrugs*
Most people don't really know what a hotlist is and just thinks it sounds a lot
more important than friend or watch: which is something I certainly thought when
it was first implemented.

ummm......i'm not sure if i'm asking the right thing, but there're certain
things i find a little confused.
first, how important is hotlist? (and why must hotlist implemented in MT). Is it
just for members' personal likings?
#2. in order to get someone's name into our userpage's friendlist, the other
person (whom we added) must respond in the same way. but hotlist isn't.
why?
ermm...sorry if i sounded frustrated ,
but i find it funny (and rather 'intrusive') when someone from nowhere (he has
strings of that too, and none in friendlist) just add me into hotlist.
