hm.. it's always interesting to hear what is academically taught in the artistic
sphere. (mentis san is an art graduate, i believe) i
agree that the brain sometimes has its way of being difficult that hinders
eye-to-hand coordination (to the great frustration of beginners). in w/c case,
blind drawing helps loosen the stiffness and allows starters get the feel and be
comfortable with drawing itself. like you say, relinquish control, cos most of
the time most starters (i feel) gets overwhelmed with the reference at hand,
when i think it is better to put the guard down and let the mind absorb the
object to be drawn, but this is purely for copying which doesn't leave much room
for creativity per se. as for metaphysical, like something that exists in the
mind (?) i've been reading art books once in a while and found that i mostly use
the gestalt method- and with regards to copying, i'm actually more concerned as
to what other people do see, and i just accentuate parts deemed prettiest..

ne- is that something you've read about ABe? though, i do notice that he barely
makes a polished look with his drawings.. as if they're all freshly drawn.. like
for instance this sketch from his T.Prevue Version
0.9.. i love his use of thin sharp lines and delicate way of drawing the
features.. (which makes it very evident, that his line flows are very smooth and
unrestrained) that give a certain vulnerable feel to his drawings, that i find
very charming.. haha. and to me, his illustrations always come across as
something mood-oriented as opposed to a poster look, so yeah ABe is uniqueness.
(i've downloaded quite a sizeable amount of his art in torrent, and it's a gem
to any fan). i am pretty sure you have not let yourself miss it.

otoh, it also requires a lot of patience and the proverbial labor of love,

Yes, I have noticed that Abe tends to draw much more like in a figure drawing
style, yet somehow still manages to make it look like anime! It's really
incredible. I don't know if you have ever seen any of his works from the
Sketches and Faces books, but those are truly impressive (and quite hard to
find).

the finale of yuyu hakusho (manga) has the characters drawn in that style too-
it's amazing!
speaking of which here is my humble, dusty, age old gallery
in deviant art. It's always interesting to see anime artists get a kick at
realism so that was really fun to see.
however, i have noticed there are a number of korean artists (mostly in the
gaming world) that have almost a similar style (cross of anime/realistic) so
that's good news, i guess.

drawing' way back, however, i didn't know it is actually used in abstract art.

with characters, i have to say i am more keen with copied drawings, as they do
not have the burden of thinking designs or concepts.. but recently, i have been
practicing/producing original concepts/chars either work-related or for
practice. the most recent is an original, however the cging sucked and i prefer the sketch like always.

'sell-out' style of anime. i'm a
big fan of him especially with Niea and Haibane Renmei! ..otoh,
i do think you captured ABe's style in your doujin and the glassy eyes give a
distinct somberness to the character.

maps for Poland and it does look like you've had some pretty intense weather.
But, I have to tell you that it wasn't a hurricane :P. I know it's been raining
like crazy over there though. I'll have to speak with my family in Wroclaw and

A few years ago I saw a program on Discovery about how to stop the effects of
anthropopression and global warming... One of the ideas was to build enormous
dams on the oceans 0_0. According to my comprehension Poland lies in the area of
calm weather... if such things are happening here, then let's pray for a belated
Armageddon

I looked up some satelite weather maps for Poland and it does look like you've had some pretty intense weather. But, I have to tell you that it wasn't a hurricane :P. I know it's been raining like crazy over there though. I'll have to speak with my family in Wroclaw and ask them how they're doing.
In the Beaufort scale, the highest wind-speed category is called "hurricane" :> (110 kmph)Since Central Europe is quite far from the Ocean, by "hurricane" I mean "not typhoon"
Anyway, the wind destroyed many power lines in the north part of the country,
but not mine. That's some luck for the New Year I suppose 
Now it'll be a week of headaches
