^^; Am I really that awesome? I don't really think so myself for I'm still in

No one ever stops learning and experimenting. To do so is to stop being

Quote by mickyokoYou can still work on
some lighting/shading consistency. I believe this is an entry. Good luck.
Yeah that's one of the things that I'm still unsatisfied with, the fact that the
scan is more saturated than the background... and the fact that there's a
certain disconnectivity between the foreground and background in terms of
style... I'm not sure if I might have repaint the scan or something... any
suggestions?

Quote by mickyokoThe cliff's shading is
wrong (or wrong in a realistic lighting setting) in the sense that the light
exposure is the same all through out from the tip of the cliff to the lower edge
of the wallpaper which make it look just like a traingular flat
plane/surface.... to fix that you can create a varying tones then add a mild
gradation of shades from the tip to the lower edge of the wall. Anyway it is
hard to explain with words so I decided to paint over the thumb of your wall
(hope you don't mind). Here is the link of my quick light make-over. http://i70.photobucket.com/albums/i84/mic_kyoko/a.jpg
Additional suggestions. To add more impact you can add more of the proper
texture/surface to all the objects in the wall for example make the cliff more
rock looking.
Hope this helps and I hope you won't get annoyed with me tampering with your
wallie thumb. ^^
Thanks! It helps a lot (esp with the visual ). I added
more colour and light onto the water and sky, as well as some shadows/highlights
to the cliff. and I repainted the scan, adding a bit more shading and changed
the outlines. Just curious, do you use filters and layer blend modes to get the
dynamic colour contrasts, or do you just use plain brushes?

Quote by mickyokoYou over highlighted
the cliff... rocks don't reflect light as much as the skin or the clothe esp.
the water. The highlight is lighter than the position of the main light source.
Anyway the make-over is better. Why not try another attempt of a different
subject to practice lighting. Light source coming from the rear of the subject
is way harder to calculate than the ones on the side and front (try this light
sources first for a start). Don't worry I know a lot of artist who are not also
good in lighting, so they use references but me on the otherhand is used in this
stuff due to experience. So that means practice can make it better and enhance
your imagination as well.
Just curious, do you use filters and layer blend modes to get the dynamic colour
contrasts, or do you just use plain brushes?
> I use brushes most of the time but I change the brush mode from normal to
color dodge and multiply to quick edit your work. On my works, I also often use
soft light mode for the ambient light and overlay for the dramatic light rays
and sometimes screen as well.
> As for dynamic color contrast you must have an idea on how to use color
harmony and its schemes. If you've read my hint (on POR's page) about highlights
not being white to be effective, somehow the answer to this question is also the
answer to your question in a way. So that is for you to find out. ^^; Sorry if I
can't just give away that tip for now but maybe I'll place it in my digital
painting tutorial that I'll probably release in DA by Feb. For I intend to place
art theories there.
Your welcome btw.
Oops, I guess I went overboard with the highlight ...
so I darkened it a bit..
actually I kept your suggestion in mind as I worked on this, so I used light
oranges and yellows on this for highlights and dark purples for the shading. I
dunno, I used a lot of soft light and multiply layer blend modes (not brush mode
though) to get more colour contrast, but I'm always hesitant to use dodge or
burn because it tends to make it look too bright...
hmm... you look like a tetsuya nomura fan. love the works, man.

Quote by mickyoko^^; My thesis adviser
also told me that my work appeared not fully organic but with signs of being
mechanical. BTW to produce those dotted like spray waves just turn your brush
mode to dissolve to achieve such effect. Thanks for the comment and the fav... I
also updated it and added a glow on the wings and mists to further increase the
mood.
Thank you.
Super late reply. But well I sorta agree with your thesis adviser I guess, at
least for that latest one, because of the colors and textures. But I don't think
it's a bad thing... it's a really nice part of your style I think, so yeah... :3
Thanks for the tip btw, I'll have to try it out sometime
Quote by mickyokoIf you want to
continue/pursue more on digital painting try using a hard edge brush more, then
avoid the smudge and blur. I guarantee to you more better results. Good luck in
the contest, I'm also judging there. ^^;
oh yay! thanks for the advice ^-^ I'll do that on my next painted wall. Oh just
wondering, but do you use a painting tablet?
but it is hard imagine that many people can draw so well. The colors that you
put into the wall is very warm and in a way, clearly emphasizes the sun set and
brings Hinata's and Naruto's love to a new level. heh. Also the clouds may have
added a dreamy touch to the wall, but that could just be my opinion. The wall is
vibrant in color and design and made Naruto and Hinata look very much realistic
as if they were actually there.
I don't know if that is much of a comment, but that is just what I could see
based on my level of critic skills.
Quote by ghostly1986Awsome wall,
absolutely love it. Pity about the resolution.
I don't suppose you could produce a higer resolution version from your originals
without killing the quality? Cause that would great.
This is only my shrinked down version for my original file was around 3268x2529.
What res do you need anyway?
I'd like 1280x1024, or since the aspect ratio is different, 1323x1024. That
would be awesome. In fact, if it is at all possible, I'd love to get a couple of
your other walls at one of the above resolutions. The one I originally commented
on was "Naruto: Night to Remember" but I also adore your
"Naruhinata: Dreams come true" wall and the CG Eva 01 wall. You do
some brilliant work
Quote by mickyokoIt's ok for starters to
use the smudge tool but as you progress in digital painting you'll prefer
blenders in painter, or just use low opacity brushes (dotted or basic round) to
achieve your desired look and effect. Smudge tool is often avoided in digital
painting for it usually creates blur and reduces texture. Well, good luck on
your other works.
yeah I find that the smudge tool usually makes a mess of things and I lose the
details and the paintery feel if I use it... Ah I wish I had painter, the
blender looks to give awesome effects. I'll try using less opaque brushes and
more in-between colours to blend (somebody else told me to do that as well),
although I think I'm still a bit hesitant in using harder-edged brushes (I
usually use soft airbrushes) because I get (what I call) brush scars...

About monday, nasa CFAD ako from 8:00am to 9:00pm... parusa talaga.
ahaha.. kawawa.. well, be happy 8am kc may time ka pa para matauhan. ako dati
yan?
was able to complete fansubbing it before it was licensed. i was able to
download a torrent of the complete set of what C1 made at some torrent
sites.
Monday. ^^
in storyline, it's a really great anime. pero don't expect beautiful art tsaka
mga action scenes kasi wala talaga. topic nya is more of the supernatural;
parang kung sa ating kultura, ang "mushi" sa Japan is equal to what we
call "engkanto" but they don't have the form of people but more like..
plankton. o.O
Quote by mickyokoI'm interested in being
a judge (if time permits because I have to do a lot of digital paintings for my
thesis and if you permit that is). I'm quite an art critic.
BTW just a question. How the heck do you get your work on the so called elite
gallery? What is an elite gallery anyway? I'm really wondering about that since
I joined MT which is about 2 months from now.
Anyway. Jaa~ and Ganbatte!
The Elite gallery was a strange idea from the moderators [at a time when I was
still a normal member] to "upgrade" submissions to a higher level
gallery. It was implemented as a solution to the complaints towards the low
quality walls being deleted. So less things were deleted and better walls were
being promoted. Admins, Mods and Elite members have the power to move
submissions to the elite status, based on a few criteria like execution
composition originality and such. Members also have the right to report items to
be removed/added but I've never really seen it happen.
personally I don't think it's a great feature, plus no one actually sets their
browsing settings to elite only.
Lee's form looks weird however.. the shadow seems to fool my eyes. i like
sakura's dress too; i wished tenten also wore a black sexy dress too.
^^
Well, I don't like Sasuke but I don't hate him too... he is just a lame
bishounen that's all.
If you are referring to Lee's face it's supposed to look like that as well as
the form for I have references on both.
BTW you're comments are like the one's I see in my DA account (the Sakura
dress).
Tomorow is the iskul bukul day. Classes start tom but I'm not planning to
attend... profs are lazier than students.
somewhere on Lee's back ung tinuturo ko.. upuan ba ung nasa leg nya? la lang..
