Quote by charaznableamurorei... I just HAD to suggest this, otherwise my brain will burst! XD
Yup, it's kinda quiet back there at the DSC because the people mainly involved in the Monthly Displays are pretty much in deep in real life, mentis-san... and pegassuss, Anjhurin, *secret artist's name here* and I are also prepping up special stuff for a sort of Special Display thing coming up soon. The preparations for that kinda going slow, because of darn real life getting in the way, lol... and also, I kinda have other backlog promises-commitments I'm trying to fulfill around these virtual parts (lol, to enumerate, w.a.r. story writing stuff, MT Character Classes caption stuff, the "Tips for Doujin" thing stuff, the DSC Member Directory thingy and some other stuff...), so why the heck am I telling you this, lol?

Anyways! On to the suggestion! Maybe while we're waiting for the Special Displays thingy to launch (and looking at the positive response your thread is getting!), maybe, maybe, maybe, how about having an MT event that involves artists and anyone else interested and basically full-on inviting everyone to engage in "blind drawing/blind painting", with your Creative Painting - Manga Version guide as one of the basis of said event? (Lol, I'd love to see what wallers and non-artists' artwork would look like!)

One other basis (I think) for the MT "blind drawing/blind painting" (lol! what about "blind walling"? ^^^) event is that we could have people who contribute lovely scans suggest some or lotsa scans as references for the event, or even "blind-wall/blind-digitally-paint" doujinshi or even walls or whatever? So that we could encourage their participation too? *okies, warning, wackiness factor going waaayy off the scale now...*

Of course, what I feel is lovely about the whole thing is that maybe this could be a nice event that would be a kind of break from the awesome-art-and-awesome-wall trend, and loosen things up... lol, actually I'd quote a lot from your conversation with chisaikame-chan on your guestbook on this part, but anyways... But I think the MT standards on "quality" might get a bit in the way of the "blind drawing/blind painting/blind walling" event, since really at first glance (to use an example) your Hizuru - Blind/Charcoal and Hizuru - Blind/Sharpie drawings kinda look like just doodles, which are kinda discouraged in the MT Policy... ^_^"... but hey, you know, maybe we could suggest to the MT mods to open up a special MT Gallery section just for the event, for everyone to submit their "blind artwork" stuff in, so that it wouldn't be mistook as just "doodles"?!?!? O_o ... *okies, wackiness factor reaching white-supernova mode* But if that doesn't work (and if the mods aren't game on a let-your-creativity-soar event), maybe we could just go it a la Inspiration Project style, an off-MT website hosting the "blind artwork" chu-chu-ness? But nnnnnnn, so that it'll truly be open and conducive to artistic creativity and MT communitiness (word creation time! XD), I really hope that the special MT Gallery section thing could be accomodated!

Lastly, maybe we could start in the DSC, see if we could get other organizers (I'd love to ask fireflywishes and MapleRose and flyindreams and other doujin groups like Doujin-Arena and close-to-doujin-making groups like Paint-o-Rama are game to this!) to crash in and help out! Lol, me will probably help out, just a bit (me ish bad, suggesting all this and backing out in the end, lol!) But anyways... ^^^

*And supernova flashes! XD* I'm kinda thinking/feeling under an influence, this Hachikuro Model of Diversifying the "Support Doujinshi" Cause in Minitokyo and Other Spaces and Places in my head for quite a while now... so, hastily mapping the "blind drawing/blind painting/blind walling" event out:

http://img180.imageshack.us/img180/8862/hachikuromodeerublindvp9.th.gif

... *breathes out hard!* Whew, 'glad to get that one out! So, what do you guys think? ^^^

Hiya Chara-chan ^_^. I was just wondering if anything came of this...? It was a good idea, but it's unfortunate that no one else chimed in with their thoughts or support... So, anyway, just curious.

How have you been? I wasn't on MT much for some time, but I'm trying to be here a little more. Took me forever to catch up with all of my notifications :P. Anyways, take care, and write me back :D.

P.S.: Oh, shoot. Well, never mind. I see that you haven't been online since you made that comment. :_( ...I'm sad now. Come back...?

r q g

Hi

flyindreams told me that you are working on some sort of project...so I came here.

Shoku

r q g

Konichiwa, Chara-dono ^_^. I just replied to your post in my thread, and I hope you don't mind me adding you to my friendslist :D. I was also wondering if you are part of the Doujinshi Support Club group? Cause there doesn't seem to be much going on there, and funky things are afoot with member statuses and such, dunno :P.

Anyway, I'll see you around ^_^.

Quote by charaznableamuroreiI only noticed this after seeing you draw Mikhail in lots of different kinds of poses and scenes: he's the only one you always, always draw with gloves on, right? I smell mystery (and a story) here... XD

you're right! :)

Quote by charaznableamurorei
Oh, but I have to ask, for the "doujin banner" version: what do you think, is it best that we retain the whole doujin? I mean, not crop it or loop off some parts and then just a smaller-sized version would be the banner for the "Tips" thread? Or.... crop the doujin, focusing on the needle/thread and Mikhail? Then, just some words on the banner like "Having trouble with drawing?" or something more creative/nifty? I'll try to ask firelfy and ephie 'bout what words/sentence/question is apt for the banner! But if you still have the time, please drop me a line about what you feel is best, ne? ^^^ For sure-ness, Wapy-san gets all the credit for all the "hard work" for "Hard Work"!

well, then I'll small-size it. About the sentence....ammmm.... I really need to think about it... what about: "doujinshi, a work with no end"?
well, I'll small it, then I'll give it to you OK? ;)

Kisses!

Hey there, chara-obaasan!
Haha...sorry, sorry; couldn't resist (LOL, and this is what I do after an eternity of not even dropping by...tsk, tsk. For shame!)
Actually I've been busy doing internship work at Heart Center, UST Hospital, Philippine Children's Medical, and even in Sapang Palay, Bulacan! Haha...this past year has been really hectic for me, though a lot of fun as well, and I've gotten a taste of how it is to work instead of studying all the time.
So kamusta na kayo, lola...este ate? Haha...sana naging mabuti itong 2006, and all the best this 2007!
Medyo late na, pero Happy New Year! (For next year nalang...haha.) ^^ Godbless lagi!

r q g

Hello hello chara! :)
Just a quick visit to wish you a very Happy New year! I hope you have tons and tons of fun! ^^ And I hope it comes full of good surprises and good things for you! and May your wishes come true :)
I hope you are doing great and that you are enjoying this holidays with your family and loved ones ^^
Merry Christmas! ^__^
Take care! :)

r q g

Hey chara-nee ^_^

Just dropping by to wish you a very merry christmas with your bro / friend (i'm sure she's gonna bug you with the birth of the Lord etc... right ? since she is a pretty hardcore catholic from what i remember... wanting you to get married etc... lol ^_^'). I hope you'll spend a great time with your loved ones, and also that the shooting of The Take meets its audience with your homefolks :).

Anyway, it seems i'm even busier now... with going to see friends i don't see often, going to visit my father etc...
But i don't forget about the event, and i was thinking that it should get rolling soon. Actually, i was thinking of creating a 'joining' thread in the art lounge as well as a joining announcement in the DSC, and link it on a lot of other groups' GB.
The thing being, as i said before on yahoo, are people tired with me making the announcement ? Then it would be better if someone else made that. And then i have to say that i obviously thought about you, because you have much more of an 'aura' around you that i do (i mean, you're proficient with words, and have more charisma, and know more people etc etc...). That's what i thought, but at the same time it feels wrong to "drop" things on you somehow.
Plus i didn't get that much replies from the previous displays' winners... so i wonder who'll step up to the challenge.

Merry Christmas again

anj X-P *hugs*

Quote by charaznableamurorei... Ginthetwilightswords, sorry for the very late reply. ... but do you remember runic?

I was busy preparing a sort of "DSC Member Directory Listing", randombly browsing DSC members' userpages, when I chanced upon her guestbook and read a sad message from her friend in there. She passed away last year, around this month, 9th of November.

I talked with runic for a couple of times, mostly when the MT Character Classes Contest thing was going on. I remember sharing a laugh with her when she made her MT noobie: cutiepie doujinshi. She didn't intend to submit "cutiepie" for the doujin contest, but I suggested that she do, since her doujin really does personify 'newbieness'... she agreed, and that was fun. I also remember runic encouraging me to hang in there, since at the time of the contest, I was also struggling with my offline office job while trying to keep a handle on the goings-on of the contest. And for that, I thank her.

She did seem to be also known in this forum: http://www.animeacademy.com/forums/showthread.php?t=21030 .

... and the best that I could come up to remember her is by making a simple (I honestly think it's crappy... -_- ) banner for her, based on her Mt artist sketch. I posted the banner on the DSC group page, but for you, here it is:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v649/charaznableamurorei/sayonara_runic.jpg

... to my surprise, her entry was deleted/the drawing does not show up? I did a little research on the DSC guestbook, and someone there (serendipity, I think) said that some of the contest entries were deleted for no apparent reason... including runic's drawing. Her Mt artist sketch colored version is still there, though... so my biggest hunch why the line-art one was deleted because whoever reported it probably noticed it was a "duplicate" of the colored version... but it's wrong to think of it that way, because the entries there were contest entries... not considering the context is inconsiderate on the part of the person who reported the "dupe" and the moderator who deleted the submission... -_- Anyway, when I get the free time to investigate/follow up on this, I'll try. I'm a little busy with some other doujin-related projects here, but honto, promise, I'll try, for runic...

Anyway, again sorry for not responding so soon. Belated happy birthday, 'hope you're doing well.

I'm glad I didn't purge my inbox,I would have missed this.I always wondered what became of Rune, but never in my mind did I imagine that she passed away. She was a beloved friend of mine and a fantastic artist, and when she just stop showing up Ihad no clue.I feel abit ill about this, even worse so that I don't come on here as often as should because of my life outside the net and how so much here has changed. If I had a scanner,if I could even draw again I would make a memorial for her.One day I shall,I just have to remember to do so...

I do not see how the drawing could be a rip considering she did the pen and ink version before she did the coloured version.I know these for I had favored both and praised her about how it looked. There's not much I can do considering my my short time online nowadays, gut I will back you up as far as having the image resubmitted if needed. It's unfair to her and her memory, and I cannot believe serene would do that.

I hold it not against for the late reply.I too am at fault. There are so many here that have not spoken to in some time, but I do think it is time for me to reinstate myself here just yet.And I when I do,I'll have many choices words about the changes that have taken place here on Minitokyo.

Anyway, thank you for your reply,I hope to hear from you once more and I will do my best to check in at the most weekly here.Give my best wishes to the group, and the tribute image for Runic, her memory,I'm sure she would appreciate it ^-^.

Quote by charaznableamuroreiNooo... I haven't bugged him, firefly... T_T ... because honestly, I'm overly procrastinating over a nice post for him from me on his guestbook (for all the awesome DSC banners Ryuuen's concocted over the year, and for managing to find the time to help out in the DSC)... so I'm still hiding from him... T_T ... lol, and why am I addressing Ryuuen in the third person? O_O

OK, technical/impressionistic commentary! I'm kinda entering into a yaoi-gaga phase right now, so I can't say a glowering "OMG, cute girls in love!" comment right now... I'm not too sure about Konoka Konoe's (she's the one at the right, right?) right arm, how it wraps around Setsuna Sakurazaki's left arm... or maybe I'm just trying to cover up for my apparent cluelessness over drawing proportions and stuff, lol. Anyway, I think you wanted to focus on the girls' faces here, instead of their clothes, with all the highlights on their faces, hair and all. Oh, and the nodachi (her sword)... shouldn't it be curving juuuusst a tad little?

Oh, and yes yes, if you could spare some time off your offline studies, please do drop us a line on the thread! ^^^ And I'm off dropping a comment on your DSC banner featuring DSC members! ^^^

*smacks forehead* Oh, and sorry for being insensitive... same with fireflywishes, I hope your wrist gets better. Alaxan ba ang iniinom mo? Tama na 'yang drugs, ha? *Nanay mode! XD* I-hot compress mo lang iyan, hane?

Eww... yaoi... lol |D;

but to no offense, I'm scared of yaoi so I dunno what to say xD;;;
And yup, Konochan's holding unto Secchan's arm ^_^
I'll make sure I'll fix the mistakes on my next drawing, if ever I pass my finals and subjects this term |D;

I still need to do a new banner too, yau know >: the last one is getting old. >:

Lastly... random lang na pagsagot |D
Di po Alaxan... DI po ako uminom ng painkillers, I used the for-external-use-only types ;D
Thanks for the concern though, but rest assured that both of my wrists are out of binds and all better no ^_^

Thanks for the comment Chara-neesama! : D

Quote by charaznableamuroreifireflywishes, thanks for keeping tabs on the 'Tips' project and for promoting it on your userpage and Doujin-Arena!

I asked Wapy to come up with a funny banner for the 'Tips' project, to liven things up... and she accepted, yes! Hopefully, we'll hear from her soon, and that she doesn't get bogged down in real life, too. ^^^

dothaithanh sent me his tips via PM some time ago, and wishes he had the time to make it more like a full tutorial or something. I asked if it's ok for me to post his tips on the thread or if it's ok that he does so himself, but it seems he is really is busy at the moment since I haven't heard from him.

I also followed up on KOKUJINDESU's troubles in scanning his hand-crafted work, and gomen, I haven't responded back to him, but I'll do that real soon!

So... lol, I'm kinda running low on ideas on where we should go next with the Project. What do you think? Thanks again, firefly, and oh... I wish to give you something, a gift, but I can't decide what. Hnnn, pick something from the lot:
-- Le Guin
-- time song
-- harmony/disharmony

... and I'll send you something related to what you chose!

Aw thanks chara! I'm always happy to help out! Once we get Wapy's banner as well as the tips from dothai and KOKUJINDESU do you think that we would have enough to propose a sticky thread? As for a gift... I have no clue! ^_^' How about "time song" then...?

Hey chara-nee !

I'm sorry i haven't been in touch for so long, nor answered your thoughtful post for the end of year event. It'll take a little time for me to be back at full speed here on MT, since i have so much to update myself with. I'll try to work ten times harder (plus with me starting my hospital shifts in the morning / classes in the afternoon), but since there's no helping it, i really want to get started by the end of the week.

Thanks a lot for all the support, and also the good work on the Doujin tips thread. On a side note, i don't know if you've read Nietzsche "Thus spake Zarathustra", but i think it's really awesome (re-reading it), he's making some points on the "State" that are most true (and converging with your views as well).

I really wish i could talk to you on MSN, just to suck some of your liveliness for myself (... vampyrising), and also to share some news ;)

Take good care of you

I snuck a peek at your gallery ('contains a lot of GSD characters!) ...

Maybe you could ask yourself if you're submitting one of your own original characters? If it's your own original character:
Try clicking on the letter "O", then click on "Original", then just proceed as usual?

If the doujinshi you're submitting is not your own character and there seems to be no anime/manga category yet for it, then try submitting it under the letter "O", this time select "Other".

I hope I wasn't too confusing, pikac! Please let me know if there's a problem or anything.

Thank you so much for the help,
here's the work,

Quote by charaznableamuroreiYou might be right. So, when you made your thread, what you had in mind are tips for 'beginner doujin artists'. yes or no? Maybe we could talk more on the DSC announcement-thread thing if people want more tips arranged via skill level or what-not. Anyway, let's see where we'll go in the thread, right? Thanks, ephie.

Yeap! That's right! >.< *slaps forehead*

Quote: ... added a 'Insert your name here' on the announcement content now...

The 'Tips for Doujinshi Artists' Thread Rewriting Project

Ephemeral-Garden, fireflywishes, [insert your name/s here] and I are rewriting and editing the "Tips for Doujinshi Artists" thread (click
here for ephie's thread) to help people who are seeking help with their drawing skills.

We will then propose to the MT moderators that it be red-pinned on the Art Forum. We believe that this project will be a big boost to support independent art and aspiring artists in Minitokyo.

All you doujin artists out there, whether you're in other MT doujin groups or going solo, are happily welcomed to post your own tips and ideas here! Don't worry about your poor/bad English; we'll try to understand one another, ne? Your tips will be greatly anticipated and appreciated.

I did consider anjhu and peggy to join up as editors, but I hesitated because I already know peggy is busy with the layout-DSC and anjhu is trapped with figuring out how to make the Special Displays work and both I bugged with this other thread-thing I had in mind, one asking "What kind of support do you doujin artists want?" ... Anyway, please do invite them or anyone else. I just had a good feeling that you and fireflywishes are willing to take on this project, so that's why you two were the first people on my mind. XD

Hm, so I guess we'll start bit by bit first with the 3 of us then. By the way jii-chan looks, he must be extremely hyped about this Special Displays, >.<. I'll definitely wanna help out in this project, the fact doujinshis being underappreciated bugs me a lot. ^^''

Quote:
Let's now wait for fireflywishes, and then I'll post the thread on the DSC. Also, if you have anything else to add in the main post content, just tell me! I'll also go around other doujin groups to bug them to join in the discussion. ^^^

Well, I don't really have anything to say basically. But maybe quotes for boosting artists, maybe. >.<

Awaiting for more news! :)

Quote by charaznableamuroreipeggy, thanks for the very insightful comments!
You know, I wholeheartedly agree with you about the "comment/feedback thing" and the "uncompetitive spirit" points you said! I was, honestly, half-expecting that you'll say them. ^_^ But I was hoping that those points should/might be expressed by you or artists themselves on the thread itself. Ayaw ko sana kayong pangunahan. Ok, trying to translate that from Tagalog, it's sort of like "I want to hear the answers directly from you artists", rather than just me drawing it out from inference... though it could be drawn easily from that, maybe you guys have to say it out loud, ne? That's the reason why I just posed the questions and didn't offer any alternatives/answers or limited the discussion by framing it as "besides from comments, favs, etc... what other kind of support do you want?"... because maybe what I wanted to do is discuss the matter of "doujinshi underappreciation" one step (or one issue) at a time?
But maybe you're right... that I should point it out explicitly that "Aside from commentary on your artwork, what other kinds of support do you want?" ... since you're right -- the point of the thread should be to draw out other kinds of support for doujinshi artists, right? ^^^ T_T ... ok, I'll get on writing it in the thread content, hoping it won't get as looooong as my usual crap-rants, lol!
Lol, I really can't wait to start the thread out... maybe after the results of the DSC voting? I thought of making the thread as an announcement on the DSC first, then I would go around MT doujin groups asking for input on it? Would that give it more exposure since the group-announcement thing reaches all DSC members automatically, right? But you're basing from your experience that only a few people participate answering the announcements, right? Uuu, it's tough to choose whether to make the thread on the Art Forum or on the Group Announcement Forum... T_T ... Anyway, thanks for all the biggest help and compliments!

Hey chara! ^^
Yeah, I agree with you. Maybe it should be better not to point out anything, to give artist more freedom to express their opinions in the matters they want. I just thought that it was kind of obvious and that maybe they were only going to point out that matter again and again XD But I'm sure you'll type it perfectly okay, so maybe there is no need to point out anything ;)

So, the voting has ended, now it can be a good time to star the thread, or if you feel it's better to wait a bit longer... How to launch the thread though. It's true that the group-announcement thing reaches all DSC members automatically, but I believe not everyone pays attention to them XD that's what experience tells me. But to start it in the Art Forum does not mean that it will reach the mayority of the people since a lot of members don't participate in the forums a lot (i.e: me XD) but it also brings the question to everyone, not only members of the DSC.

SO, either way has it's pros and cons. But I think starting it as a group anouncement would be more appropiate (and members wouldn't have an excuse not to participate XD) and then promeote the thread around. ^^
Anyway, whatever option is ok ;)
Take care and see you later! ^.^

Quote by charaznableamuroreiharakiri, I just wanted you to know that I've posted something nice for you on the Doujinshi-Support-Club about your Seelenschatten (translated: soul shadows) movie.... and please please do drop by the guestbook to promote it or whatever! Now I'm thinking.... When is the premiere? Where? Are you selling popcorn, or, erm, pineapple juice? lol, anyway, I'm just saying that I'm seriously 101 percento promotional support for your really really avant-garde project... ^^^ I hope to hear from you soon at the DSC!

Oooh, wow, I'm all fired up, and failing my other commitments both offline and online.... hey, I volunteer to make a Minitokyo review of your Seelenschatten film! And maybe coax other people to do the same! Ummm, you think it's ok? If it's ok with you, then I'll ask the MT mods... but of course, I'm optimistic that they'll agree, since indy anime is still anime, ne ne ne? ^^^^^^^ If not, I better prepare a loongish cruel thesis (no pun intended to Evangelion!) to argue for the case!

T_T ... I respect your decision to leave the group, but anyway, 'just letting you know that I'm still behind any indy art/doujinshi-related project, ok? Byes!

I wanted to thank you earlier but then I have been disconnected from the internet and still cannot access Minitokyo from my machine. You know, I have been disconnected five minutes before I wanted to start my promotion tour xD

I appreciate your support and admire your will and motivation for promoting indy art. Thanks for the post at DSC - I'll go there right away and post something myself.

I would be very glad about a review of my movie but the same time I am a bit afraid of harsh critique xD
But if you want to review, your are free to do so.

Thanks for your support, chara!

Let's trade 'occupations'! You can have 'office gal extraordinaire' (since you're working now for the Canada's Translation Bureau) and I can have 'daydreamer' (since I practically just spending lots of time at home writing/working on students' silly school stuff [... which reminds me, I have to ask them for their payment tomorrow! XD ] while trying to cope with crappy internet). Anything gossipy or interesting while at work, hnn?

You've been a big help, really. Oh, about what I intend to do with the answers... well, I don't clearly know yet, but at least, you (doujin artists: plural sense) voicing your (plural) opinions on it might help me focus in coming up with ideas to support doujinshi, taking into account the doujin artists' concerns. Sometimes, though I have good intentions on how to support you guys, maybe consulting with you first is best... I noticed that nowadays in MT, consultations like shin's thread are pretty much rare... and maybe just talking about issues help, right?

Anyway, updated thing here.... and again, sorry for the bother and thanks for the help! Succinct, succinct -- word for the day!

START

[Question for doujin artists] How do you want to be supported?

First off, I want to apologize for the overbearing posts recently in the DSC.
Maybe I'm talking too much, failing to listen. Suggesting too much, failing to hear what you desire to say.

To doujin artists: How do you want to be supported? What would make you feel appreciated and loved? What kind of appreciation do you want for yourself and your art? Personally and/or as a whole movement of independent artists?

All doujin artists, whether they belong in other MT doujin groups or going solo, are happily welcomed to post their opinions! Please don't worry about your poor English, too. Your answers are very important to me and will be valued, however they are stated.

[ This is more or less what I intend to do with the answers to the thread... I don't have to add this, no? ]
Your opinions would be very very helpful for me personally, because as much as I would like to continue supporting doujinshi and you artists, maybe what I have in heart, mind and intent as ways of doing so might not match or coincide with how you want to be supported. Perhaps for others, what you'll say might aid them in their own ways of supporting you and your art.

END

You call that succinct?! XP And no way! I'm keeping my daydreamer!... god knows I'll need that occupation after work shifts >.<, especially since it requires me to remain constantly awake, in front of a computer screen. (I'll finally see my real office tmr, or maybe, I should say my cube... >.< Yay for mp3 players to make sure I don't hear my neighbours! Good thing for them is, I don't have access to any e-mail accounts, except their own, and they watch all of our online activities, so I won't go crazy with the chatting and downloading LOL. And no, no gossips for now, except I had quite an unexpected influence on the vacation trip of the guy who called me for myjob offer... He noticed the city in my address (he thought it was close to where his wife came from, but he was a bit wrong), and so, they decided to go visit my hometown XD...

Anyways, I don't have much to add about your thread discussion (btw, Ephie sort of answered that even before you posted the thread in the group's gb... the post is almost as long as yours XD)... Ok, so nothing to add except, maybe, if you want a discussion about doujinshis as whole, and not just about how to support artists, you could talk about how doujinshis are perceived on MT these days... Why they lack popularity and so on... And not only how we'd like to be supported, but give piece of ideas as to how we could make doujins less invisible in the galleries, etc. Blah, you don't have to listen to me... I've had too much time to think today it seems (I was avoiding reading all those documents about military vocabulary ^_^'... SO BAD! and sooo complicated).
Well, gotta go, see ya!
