Quote by shoujoboyWhat is is that people type on reviews on this site that puts /'s in front of their apostrophes? Really though, well thought out review and props on breaking down the sub and the dub side of things. Not only that but going against the grain and prefering the dub over the sub, how brave. Ha. Good review and now on to your other...

oops, about the /'s, MT put them in automatically when I first edited it for some reason... but I fixed it now.

well I think HMC is an exception with regards to the dub (the other exception imo is FMA), probably because Billy Crystal did an excellent and memorable job as Calcifer, and that the sub didn't have too many memorable voices in it.

Quote by shoujoboyNow that is one exhaustive plot summary. This is the second review I've read on this series and it makes me want to watch it even more. And I will... as soon as ADV makes it a bit cheaper. I'm a sucker for this type of stuff. It is good to see though that you can see that a deep plot filled with plot twists isn't necessary for something to be good. They can just be good for what they are. Again well done and I look forward to your future insights.

oops, I get I did go overboard a little on the story part, but I guess I wanted to say something about the characters as well as their stories. Should I trim down on the plot a little and focus on the characters instead?

it really is a good tear-jerker series, and it touched me for some unexplainable reason :)

thanks for reading my reviews!

Quote by shoujoboyWait a minute someone else didn't like Noir? Oh thank God I'm not the only one. In fact I'd rate it much lower than what you did and not because the story was confusing, the show was just plain boring. I actually had to put my DVD's on Ebay to force myself to watch them before they sold in 3 days. And I agree, the music was the high point. But is it just me and anything Yuki Kajiura composes for seems to just suck? Maybe I'm looking too much into it.

Well I picked up Noir because I've heard many good things about it, and people were recommending it, so I wanted to see what the fuss was all about... maybe I just don't get the story or something... boring? well, at times it is a little boring, but it's more because I was confused I think... at least I think it's sort of original, and the characters are not too bad.

Yes, the music is amazing, unfortunately it's probably the only good thing I got out of it...

with your last comment about Yuki Kajiura, well, the only other series I've seen that she's composed for are Gundam SEED/Destiny and My-HiME, hack//SIGN and a bit of Tsubasa RC. Well, hack//SIGN is also very confusing and boring, My-HiME's too chick-flicky, Tsubasa, well, the manga's better... but I have to say that I like (read: am obsessed with) Gundam SEED ^_^' ... yeah there are flaws everywhere, but for some reason I still love it ^^; .. at least her music for the most part is pretty awesome imo :)

yo, shoujoboy...

if you're not too busy maybe you can read some of my reviews. then blow some comments on 'em when you're done. I'd really appreciate it.

much appreciated, man.

About the grammatical errors, well at the rate at which I type (which is quite) fast I tend to overlook errors. And I'm quite lazy back then so I didn't do a lot of proofreading.

Well thanks again. I promise I'll be rolling out some new reviews some time soon.

Quote: Ok here's the idea: We use a pulse circuit that can create a pulse of 400 KW (KiloWatts) and is connected to a needle. What happens is, the high voltage from the pulse circuit ionizes the air around the needle. Also, the high current from the pulse circuit heats the air around the ionized medium, paving a way for the high power pulse to keep propagating into the atmosphere.

The problem with having high voltage with low current is, because air is an insulator (which is a non-conductive gas), the electrons hits other atoms, (where the electrons' kinetic energy hitting the atoms are divided) decreasing the electrons' velocity. But, with high current and high voltage, because electrons can travel through a vacuum, since there IS almost no resistance to those electrons' velocity, the air around the needle connected to a pulsed circuit is not only ionized, but heated from the high electrical current, which basically creates a vacuum which makes a way for these electrons to propagate.

What I wanna ask you is, wouldn't this be a logical way for a particle weapon?

Sweet testicle Tuesday Batman, what crazy stuff do you do in the basement when nobody is looking? I have to say that all sounds technical, yet understandable at the same time. Logical, maybe... and I hate to say that. Your nuts (in a good way I think) and also can I have your real name so if I get any packages from you I won't open it...

Unfortunately for me, It's almost impossible for this particle weapon theory to work.

Quote by shoujoboyI haven't been around too much lately, which is completely my fault, but I would like to formally welcome you to the Minitokyo Review group. It isn't nearly as active as it once once, but even still writers are always needed to keep the group alive and the review system improving. I look forward to seeing some of your work in the future.

Hi, thanks a lot for the welcome [better late than never, right? :)]. I noticed that no-one else posted in the group since I joined it... How about advertising the group a little bit more? Like, contacting the review writers in their GB and inviting them, or becoming affiliates with other MT-oriented groups?

Quote by shoujoboyNewbie or not, change and improvement is always welcomed. I tried for the longest time to encourage more interaction with members and the likes, but it seems nothing ever came from it. I myself used to read every single review that crossed the MT site so that we could improve the quality of review submitted, and I imlored that other members make a more concience effort to read them as they came in, but to no avail. If you have ideas, let me know and I would love to help anywhere I can. The review system right now on MT is a joke, lets make it better!

Well, first off, I think the reviews were better the way they were before, in their place above the recent art submissions and without the user's name in their title [like X's Sailor Moon review or Y's Hellsing review or...]. Where they are now, they can hardly be seen, so that will decrease people's interest about them even more.

Also, it would be cool if you could convince members to put a little group banner or a link to the group on their UP; that way, more people would find out about the group.

It's a great effort to read every single review, but if you get more people to do it, it could turn OK in the end. I don't have any ideas on how to encourage that right now, but hopefully I'll come up with something eventually ^_^'

Got to go now, it's been a hell of a day here >.<

Quote by shoujoboyLet me further expound. His day consisted of a triple whopper from burger king for lunch, 5 spicy chicken strips, fries and biscuit for dinner from popeyes, and a cinnabon two hours later for what seems to be desert. Doing the math and referencing anatomy books, his heart should have exploded, he should have had an epileptic seizure from the sugar and saturated fat... and I'm pretty sure I saw a rip in the time-space continum too.

Hope that helps.

Quote by shoujoboy
When grading the art category you look at much more than meets the eye. In fact, the description for this category says "Review the artwork and character design. Do not only look at aesthetic value, also consider if the style used matches the genre and concept of the anime." This means that the animation does not have to be better than all other anime, but whether or not it is perfect for this show. In my opinion, this animation matched this genre of show perfectly, hence the ten. Game-Set-Match.

Hahaha. Thanx for the reply. I was just merely stating the general consensus of the review. No need to go all the details on me.

People tend to look at the numbers and they won't bother reading why do you gave a perfect 10. But seeing you proclaimed yourself as the anime king, *shrugs* whatever man.

Anyways, you're one of many good anime reviewers here (though the section is a big pile of failure). Keep up the good stuff.

Quote by shoujoboyWhile I would thourougly disagree with the overall score, I did like your review. I think Kiddy Grade took a turn for the worst in the last half and proved to be it's undoing, but that is merely opinion of course. Quality matters in a review and you provided exactly that.

Thanks for the comment on the review, when i review something i enjoy i try to give as much info and description as possible so i can convey my own feelings about it :D

Kiddy Grade isn't for everyone, ive heard that it's bad and ive heard its great, im just glad i took the plunge :D

Glad you like my review (quality wise)

Quote: I've been tempted to purchase this show as I'm a sucker for the sweet stuff, and from what you've described, it seems to coincide what I thought the show would be like. I figured it wouldn't be earth-shatteringly good, but just entertaining. I'll likely still grab it once it gets cheap.

As always you provide this site with some quality material. I do make an attempt to read all reviews, but once I see quality like this, I make it priority to provide proper accolades to great writers. Keep it up.

I appreciate your comments to my reviews - they always make my day. I didn't expect any comments for an unknown series like Diamond Dust Drops, much less a well-thought out one, so I was very happy. Thank you!

r q g

Quote by shoujoboyFirst I want to say thank you. Thank you for posting a good and well written review. All too often some horrible material is submitted to this site and praised by mindless drones. All the while a review of this calibur is ignored and the writer is not given proper respect. Kudos to you.

I overall enjoyed the SMJ series, but I think that this OVA was the beginning of the end for the franchise as a whole. At this point it was starting to get redundant and just wasn't that funny anymore. I can see it getting a 7.3 overall, but I wouldn't give it that myself.

Thank you for commenting on my Saber Marionette J Again review. I really appreciate it that someone has noticed the effort you've put when writing. :) Although it's far from a 'great' review, I will try improving my skills.

And I have to agree that starting from the OAV, the series only goes down hill but I still thought it was quite enjoyable. If I were to write a review of the first series, I would most likely give that one a higher mark.

Thanks again! :D

Quote by shoujoboyThe frontpage was actually kind of decieving. From all I know of Hikaru no Go, I figured that someone giving it a 9.33 overall was probably some goofball fanboy or fangirl about to go on a rant. Surprisingly that is quite the opposite. Instead a well thought out and intelligent review. Still not sure if a 9.33 would be accurate, but opinions differ and I'm sure I would get flamed for stuff I would give 9+ to. Good job.

Thanks for the comment. I'm assuming you have read the manga, but opinions are just that - opinions. To me, it's one of my highest ranked mangas, even if it is fan-ish. But thanks for the comment again.

Quote by Hasaki-Keissi[quot(...) seeing such high scores, I rather expected there to be much more of a wow factor to the review. When I see "not the most beautifully drawn anime" in your description, only to a score of a 10, I get kind of confused. It's obvious that you loved the series, but with your verbage it just seems as if you were trying to skew your individual scores to add up to the final score you were looking for. You are an overall clear and good writer, and a fairly good review overall. Just my opinion though, take it how you like.

Well, the little instructions they gave, or rather guidelines, were to base that particular part of the scoring on not only straight beauty of the illustrations, but the appropriate-ness of it, and of course if it fit the anime well. And, that is why it scored a 10.

Thank you, for reading and reviewing. And I am most glad that you were able to read and understand it clearly; as well as, think highly of the review.

I just have one question, have you watched this series? (Out of curiosity. I must know. You sound as though you have, but the first part kinda made me think slightly otherwise.)

I have yet to watch this series as it is just now releasing stateside on DVD. Regardless, I like to critique reviews based on the writer and the wording itself regardless of my actual taste or experience with the show itself. Far too many times I've written a review myself only to be slammed (sometimes just plain assaulted) by someone simply because they thought my overall '6' was too low for something they deemed a masterpiece. It seems better to judge someones reviewing skills on just how good it is. Anyway, I encourage you to keep up the reviews.

Also, we do have a Minitokyo Review group where we critique each others reviews, propose changes to the system itself, and overall just keep the review system alive on this site. I've grown a lot as a writer on MT from being a part of it and it's a good community. If it's something that sounds interesting to you, try coming around sometime and looking around, maybe think about becoming a member eh? Take it easy.

Well, enjoy it for what it is worth. (I just got the first DVD here, I must say it's okay, but by no means bad or a disgrace to the anime.) If you like it, you can join my group for it. (Yeah, I created one, cause all of them seem to have dissappeared.) ArcAile

A review group, you say. Well, I'll look into it. Perhaps on a later date. Give me the link, and I'll check it out. I'll keep them up, I'll write one on the next big one that I see.

And of course, I will take it easy, so same to you.

Quote by shoujoboyYou said boobs... *ahem*. I've made it through about half of the show now and I can pretty much agree with you thus far. TenTen just has something about it that makes it enjoyable to watch, unlike an Ikkitousen which just makes me want to kill. On the surface it does feel like a fight and boob fest, but there just seems to be much more going on. Good to see a nice, objective review out there. I may join you on the review wagon here soon enough. Keep it up.

Thankyou for the comment! I had the same impression at first, but things began to change after they started with the second story and I figured that there was a darker side there, too. Good luck if you decide to write a review, too! ;)

Quote by shoujoboyI'm going to be beaten to death by Lacus Clyne fanboy purists, but although Meer was supposed to just be a knockoff of her, she was far sexier than Lacus. All the arguements of just copying the original are pointless. Meer had a better fashion sense and a better body for her outfits. My only recommendation for your post is a spoiler tag for your last picture. You may just run somebodies day with that snippet of info.

Lol... hey, thanks for the comment XD
I prefer Lacus though...

Quote by shoujoboyI pretty much always use shoujoboy (XBOX live gamertag) when it's just creating profiles. I use default names in things like RPG's. And if I'm just playing some kind of off-line game with some friends, I always use Jay Leno. For some reason I suck at shooting rockets at somebody, but if I'm named Jay Leno I become death incarnate.

uhh.. Jay Leno? sorry but who's dat? shoujoboy sounds ok. heheh. hey! you play halo also?

Quote by shoujoboyThere is a reason for those being cheap, they are bootlegs. It's usually horrible quality and the subtitles are nothing short of, well let's just say awful. I made the mistake before of buying one of those for Excel Saga. The subtitles were falling behind by more than a minute at times. There are no extras, no chapter stops, and it's barely VHS quality.

This is a true import, http://www.cdjapan.co.jp/detailview.html?KEY=PCBX-50799. Notice that it's two episodes for $45.

Hope this helps.

ah i see. wow thanks a million for clearing this up. :( guess i'll be sticking to the domestics as i can't understand Japanese without subs. geez i just remember so many of these online stores that sells imports so cheap. i'll keep this in mind.

[edit]
sorry i forgot to ask, so if these were bootlegs then the subtitles would just be like fansubtitles? in fact, there shouldn't even be any subtitles if it's a legit import? gosh i can't believe this lol. guess there's only one way to find out, my cousin bought a like boxsets of those "import" Naruto dvds. i'll have to check 'em out and see for myself. from what you told me, these are most likely bootlegs. 20+ episodes for a cheap dazzling price of $30 lol. what a great way to grab buyers' attention.
