That's actually the center of the book. I had my hand on the scanner to press the book down so I could get as much of the image in without clipping. The alternative would have been to cut Alice in half.

Nope, used the same settings as always. That particular image didn't cover the entire page. Also, since the image is less busy with different colors, JPEG compression kicks in to make the filesize smaller.

Actually, I selected the area that I wanted colored, then super sized a brush and just went along side the edges. Have fun making stuff! Ask if you have any questions!
